Welcome!I’m Dr. YooBin Lee.
Dr. YooBin Lee is a versatile violist, educator, and creative artist whose work bridges performance, teaching, technology, and interdisciplinary creativity. Her performances have appeared in distinguished venues including Carnegie Hall and the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, earning recognition for musical sensitivity, expressive depth, and artistic versatility.
An active orchestral and chamber musician, Dr. Lee is a tenured member of the Sarasota Orchestra and has also appeared with ensembles including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. She has received top prizes and honors in competitions including the New York Artists International Competition, the Korea Art Music Competition, and as a finalist in the MTNA Competition.
Deeply committed to contemporary music, she previously served as principal violist of the Illinois Modern Ensemble, collaborating with composers including Tania Leon and Samuel Adler, and participating in premieres of new works such as Angelica Negron's Azul Naranja Salado, Dr. Dongryul Lee's Underwater Comet, and others.
Alongside her performing career, Dr. Lee is a passionate educator dedicated to mentoring the next generation of musicians. She will join Colorado Mesa University as faculty beginning in Fall 2026 and will also serve as Education Director of the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra. Her previous teaching appointments include Marshall University, State College of Florida, Knox College, Bowling Green State University, and Millikin University.
Beyond the concert stage and classroom, Dr. Lee enjoys exploring the intersection of music, craftsmanship, technology, and design. She studied bow making and rehairing, and is interested in building creative tools and systems that connect artistic and everyday life, including app and website development, 3D printing, illustration, and cooking. She is also the creator of the metronome app Cute-ronome, available on the App Store.
Dr. Lee holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Viola Performance from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a Master of Music in Chamber Music from the University of Michigan, and a Master of Music in Viola Performance from Bowling Green State University.
